Ethiopia Coffee Vet, the originator of hand-roasting and hand-brewing in Korea, began its business in 1968. The current owner, the second to run this coffee shop, took over the legacy. The history dates back to the Korean War when Ethiopia sent troops to support South Korea. Many of their soldiers lost their lives in Chuncheon city. The South Korean government erected a memorial monument for Ethiopian casualties, and the King of Ethiopia attended the opening ceremony. A bunker-style building was constructed to secure the King during the visit. Afterward, the King requested the establishment of an Ethiopia memorial hall and sent coffee beans, the name, and emblem of the king. This coffee shop still maintains the traditional Ethiopia coffee roasting style. I recommend sitting by the riverside, overlooking the duck-shaped boat – a great place to chill out.
